Flutter Login Page for Mobile App | Convert UI Design to Flutter Dart Code

Let’s convert UI Design of a Minimal Mobile App Login Page to Flutter Dart Code.

We’ll be using Flutter https://flutter.dev/

Google fonts used in this project are Nunito and Montserrat: https://fonts.google.com/

Let’s consider the following UI Design: https://dribbble.com/shots/2975887-Medical-App/attachments/619694

Let’s split the design into 7 components (or widgets in Flutter terms).

Let’s create a parent Container, inside which all the components reside. You can use Container if you want to give it a background colour, margin and padding. Inside this Container, let’s add a ‘Column’ widget, which lays out it’s children one below the other and give the width for this container to occupy full screen (by using double.infinity). Following is the code:

Let’s give the container a background of light gray(#fafafa) and horizontal padding (padding left and padding right) of 40:

            padding: EdgeInsets.symmetric(horizontal: 40),
            color: Color(0xFFfafafa)

If you look at the colour code, it always starts with ‘0x’ followed by alpha(transparency) value which ranges from ’00’ (opacity = 0) to ‘FF’ (opacity = 1). After the alpha value, the actual hex code starts. So, in the case of (0xFFfafafa), ‘FF’ is the alpha (transparency) value and ‘fafafa’ is the actual hex colour code.

Now let’s add the first child to this column, which is the logo. For this, let’s create a separate function named ‘_log()’, which returns the Widget (component), like so:

Container is used so that we can give it a margin. Inside this, we will be using Stack widget, which is used to layout components in any position of the screen. Inside Stack, we ‘Positioned’ widget, which has the properties of ‘left’, ‘right’, ‘top’ and ‘bottom’, which can be used to position the child as desired.

How to position widgets using Stack and Positioned widgets in Flutter?

To create 3 circles, lets create 3 ‘Positioned’ widgets, which ‘Container’ as it’s child. And set the container’s shape to circle with fixed width and height of 100 pixels, but with 3 different colours of each of the circles.

For the 1st circle, we have given ‘left’ value as -50, so that the circle moves towards left. The 2nd circle remains in default position. For the 3rd circle, we give a ‘left’ value of 50, so that circle moves towards right. The container is then given a top margin of 100 so that it moves down from the top edge of the mobile screen.

At this point in time, you would notice that the 1st and the 3rd circles get cut and are not shown fully. To make them fully visible on either sides, we need to change the ‘overflow’ property of ‘Stack’ to ‘Overflow.visible’ so that all 3 circles are visible.

Next, let’s create a logo text function named ‘_logoText()’, which is basically a container, with a bottom margin and a text of ‘oxa’, with some styling. (Install Google fonts package for text styling). Following is the code:

Let’s now create a text input field as a function, so that we can reuse the code for both username and password fields by passing 3 values as parameters.

How to create border radius and box shadow for TextField in Flutter?

It’s basically a Container, with TextField as it’s child. Container uses 2 properties ie., margin and decoration. Margin is used to give a bottom margin and decoration is used to give a border radius and box shadow effect. TextField makes use of ‘decoration’ property which is used for giving the text padding, font style, background colour, icon, normal state and focused state of the border. The code for this function is given below:

With that function, we can build both username and password fields by passing the following parameters:

Next function is named as ‘_loginBtn()’ to display the button. This again is a container with top and bottom margins and a full width (double.infinity). We use ‘decoration’ property to give background colour, border radius and box shadow effect. FlatButton widget is assigned as a child to this container, with some text styling to it. Code for that function is:

How to use Google Fonts in Flutter?

Finally, we have 3 more functions called _dontHaveAcnt(), _signUp() and _terms(), with some styling to show the text for ‘Don’t have an account’, ‘Sign up now’ and ‘terms and conditions’ text. The code for those 3 functions is:
